Hello Everyone,

We want to thank everyone who was able to attend our first club BBQ of the year! As you know, the weather was PERFECT and so was the food. The entertainment wasn’t bad either. Lot’s of cool aircraft were on hand and an attendance close to 65 people. The field looked great with our new tables installed. We had also worked to spread 8 tons of rock and form walkways to the pilot boxes to keep out of the mud when wet. More rock was spread in the parking area to keep it mud free in wet conditions. Also installed is a new runway pull off on the west side of the runway. If this proves advantageous we will install another pull off on the east side of the runway. We will be posting some new aerial pics of the BBQ & field soon.

We owe thanks to several people this month for our successes. There were great raffle gifts donated by our members and HobbyTown Longmont. THANK YOU!! It wasn’t easy rounding up raffle gifts so quickly, but our members came through once again. Remarkably it was one of the best bunch of raffle gifts we’ve had in a while. There were gliders, several prebuilt planes, several new kit planes, motors, balancers, gift certificates etc etc. Simply amazing what our members can do.

The races were fun. We did pylon racing, limbo pass and a timed 12 loops in the air. Two of our youth members walked off with medals and $25 gift certificates for HobbyTown! And well deserved too. Our young pilots will certainly pass us all up eventually if they haven’t already. We need more young pilots!

We also owe a big THANKS to Georgia Boy’s BBQ in Longmont. Georgia Boy’s deeply discounted our buffet lunch for the club and made it possible for us to provide the club a catered lunch for a nice change. Served was smoked pulled pork brisket, smoked sausage, coleslaw, awesome baked beans, rolls, pickles, ice tea, lemonade, soda and water. Everyone enjoyed the food. It was hard not to. Thanks to member Walter Alexander and his wife Donna for running the buffet 100%. 

We were able to collect $750.00 (up a little) for the Longmont YMCA after school program. This is a non-profit organization in Longmont who, thanks to donations, will never turn away a child due to inability to pay. Thank you all who donated to help make this possible. Our club will continue to help local needs in the community as we move forward. While no one donation from anyone will solve all the problems, continuing to support different needs in the community is beneficial. We want the community to know LEAF cares because we do. And by the way, the Longmont mayors office was made aware of our efforts last week.

Let’s continue with some more good news. While at the BBQ we were informed that our new solar charging station is finally going to be replaced, FREE!! Last year we started working with youth member Josh Reeme’s dad Tim, about acquiring new solar panels. Tim works with solar engineers who install these types of systems all over. While several obstacles were encounter during the past year, Tim was able to contact the right people and our solar panels are on the way! Not only that but Tim will send an engineer to us where the equipment arrives to insure a smooth install. This is big news for our club. Not to mention a huge savings for us. 

Want more good news? Once again the LEAF club members have enabled us to continue as a Gold Leader Club for 2018. This is just proof of what this club is capable of doing. Many of you proved this as you stepped up to work the recent field maintenance and the member BBQ needs. We had a list of volunteers who stepped up to work without being asked. Thank you. You are the best. It’s what makes this club tick.

Again, thank you everyone for your kind donations. Please know that 100% of what we collected is going to the YMCA. We kept nothing. If you were not able to attend this event we hope you will be able to attend the next event. If you haven’t been to the field in a while please stop bye and see all the improvements and ’Come fly with us’.
