Club News & Warbird Fun Fly for September

Hello Everyone,

We hope everyone has had a great and safe summer so far. As we wind down 2018 please remember there is still plenty of flying to be done this year! This is actually the best time to come out and fly with the cooler weather approaching. It has been a great year for LEAF members. We’ve had several improvements to our field, training department and LEAF’s community involvement to mention a few.

It gives us great pleasure to announce the installation of our 3 new solar charging panels! These new panels were delivered and installed last week. We are now able to actually charge more than two batteries at the same time.. Unbelievable. The best part is the new panels were DONATED to our club. Tim Reeme, the father of one of our youth members worked with a supplier in California for over a year to try to source us some used solar panels. It was only recently when Tim mentioned to his supplier Bryan, how passionate LEAF is about our training program with youth and our recent community involvement that Bryan agreed.
Bryan shipped to us from California 3 brand new solar panels. Thank you Bryan, thank you Tim! We can’t tell you how much we appreciate this act of generosity. Top it off they are also sending us 2 more solar batteries, bringing our battery bank up to 7. Tim previously donated three batteries last year.

We would be hard pressed as a club to afford this equipment. Although we can’t do much flying without charging, something would have had to happen. And it did. The generosity and involvement of our club members and family members make this club what it is. It always will. It’s quite obvious when you go to the field nowadays and see the lot almost full. Several new faces and planes and best of all is the laughter. No matter what age, everyone is having fun and that’s why we go to the field.

For those who don’t know, August club meeting we voted for the ‘Friends of Longmont Senior Center’ as the recipient of our $900.00 we collected at our last Fun Fly!! A well deserving non-profit charity. We are just below $2,000.00 in donations this year. Again, LEAF donates all monies collected at our Fun Fly’s. Nothing is kept 100% is donated. LEAF supplies all materials, food, gifts, awards and fun at the club expense and it’s generous members expense.

Speaking of events, we would like to announce our final Members & Family Fun Fly of the year. Saturday, September 08th (bad weather day of Sept.09th). We will be holding a LEAF Warbird Day. This Fun Fly is dedicated to the memory of Jimmy Tarantino, one of our fallen pilots this year. All donations will be given to charity.

So please check the date and find some time to come fly or just take a look at the warbirds. Of course the burgers, brats and hotdogs will be supplied and the pot luck ‘Lamp’ is on. Please bring a side dish of your choice. At our previous pot luck we had so much good food and plenty left over. We won’t make a list of what everyone is bringing cause no one looks at it. So bring what you want to share, it all worked out last time anyway! If you’d like to ask a question about food or anything with the event please email us. If you have any auction gifts to donate please let us know.

This will be our last club Fun Fly for 2018 so we anticipate as big a turnout as the last two. We had lots of fun, raised lots of money and ate lots of good food. Hope to see you there!

Mark
